Objective/s

  • Donation of an automatic ballistic identification system in 3D and a software for processing technical information on weapons following seizures by law enforcement, allowing statistical data to be collected.

Contributing to the Roadmap goal/s

Goal 2 - By 2024, ensure that arms control policies and practices in the Western Balkans are evidence based and intelligence led.
Goal 3 - By 2024, significantly reduce illicit flows of firearms, ammunition and explosives (FAE) into, within and beyond the Western Balkans. 

Key activities implemented up to date

  • The program started in 2018 and the equipment are in place since 2022 in all WB6.

Main challenges encountered

  • Allow WB6 jurisdictions to have an ABIS system and be able to make ballistic exchanges.
  • Allow WB6 jurisdictions to have a basis for registration of weapons information seized by law enforcement.
  • Allow WB6 jurisdictions to produce seized weapons statistics and analyzes and exchange with their neighbours and EU countries
  • Albania and France have signed an agreement to link their ballistic databases by the end of 2023.
