Objective/s
The primary objective of the project is to identify of sustainable solution for disposal of toxic waste (ash) from former ammunition disposal facilities in accordance with the legislation and good practices used.

Ensure safe and secure SALW/firearms and ammunition storage facilities designated based on identified needs and in accordance with international standards.
Key activities implemented up to date

Preparation Phase.

The exact quantity of ash located in formal disposal facilities in Albania and current storage conditions have been determined.

A preliminary chemical analysis focused on the content of heavy metals has been conducted.

Publish the Call for Offers Procedure.

Select the best bidder.

Prepare a contract with implementing partner.

After the contract was signed, the contractor started with the notification processes to receive all permissions to export the waste from “ULP Mjekës”, Elbasan, Albania (based on the received positive results that the waste material could be stored underground).

Obtain all permissions to export the waste from Albania.

Prepare all for export of waste from Albania.

150 tons of ash has been moved from Albania to Austria where repacked and moved to landfilled at the final disposal site in Germany.
