Objective/s

Support to detect and prevent weapons and their essential components, ammunition, as well as explosives and its precursor to cross illegally the borders of Kosovo and bring the offenders to justice. This project objective is in line with the Small Arms Light Weapons and Explosives control Strategy, Integrated Border Management Strategy and Countering Organized Crime
Strategy.

By 2024, significantly reduce illicit flows of firearms, ammunition and explosives (FAE) into, within and beyond the Western Balkans.

Key activities implemented up to date
Overall results were achieved:
-
The training for 15 (9 men and 6 women) police officers, MoIA official, officials from private entities who are dealing with import/export of firearms and ammunition was successfully completed;

Joint exercise between 18 officials (17 men and 1 women) from Kosovo Police and Kosovo Customs officials specialized equipment (handheld scanners, explosives and drug detector device, endoscopes, thermovision camera and K9 dogs) which were handed over to KP were used at the boundary crossing points and the green boundary
lines;

Five (5) K9 dogs have been tested, procured, trained and certified in sniffing polymer material made weapons;

40 (9 women and 31 men) police officers and customs officials whereby contributing to further development of capacities and knowledge of boundary police and customs officers on detection of illicit trafficking of firearms in fast parcels and postal services, their components, and ammunition;

30 police officers (30 men) which was focused on how to react on incidents during green boundary surveillance and the use of the specialist equipment needed for this surveillance;

The training on Boundary Detection for the Kosovo Police officers completed from 36 (29 men and 9 woman) police officers from various units such as BCP officials, K9, operations and 5 officials were from the Kosovo Costumes;
Two training sessions on CIRAM 2 were organized for 54 (48 men and 6 women) representatives from FFP, Boundary Police, Customs and Centre for Boundary Management;

One (1) set of risk analysis package IBase and I2Analyst Notebook were procured and handed over to Kosovo Police Analyst Unit.

The trainings under activity 2.2 and 2.3 were merged and jointly organized online from 27-29 of July 2020 for 15 (12 men and 3 women) participants representing boundary police analysts, customs officers, and representatives of the boundary coordination center;

Seven specialized endoscopes, three handheld explosive and narcotics detectors were provided to the Kosovo Police boundary department in support to detecting and confiscating SALW, ammunition and explosives at the boundary crossing points and the green boundary lines.

40 (36 men and 4 women) boundary police officers were trained in using the new equipment;

Testing exercise was conducted and a Report on K9 Dog Sniffing and Equipment Detection Test on polymer made weapons;
