SEESAC and EMPACT organize workshop on increased intelligence sharing

To further increase the information sharing in the intelligence phase of the investigations, SEESAC joined its efforts with EMPACT (European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats) and organized the workshop on increased intelligence sharing held on 25 May. Participants from 6 Western Balkan jurisdictions attended the online workshop, and the expert support was provided by EUROPOL, Frontex, and Swiss Police.

The workshop focused on data sharing on seized blank firing/converted weapons, intelligence handling in the FFPs, and the exchange of criminal police data with the Risk Analysis Unit in the Border police and data on seizures in-land for the development of risk indicators. Participants also had the opportunity to discuss how the exchanged intelligence and prior intelligence can lead to coordinated controls and operational actions at border crossing points.

This workshop, held in support of the intelligence phase of the EMPACT Joint Action Day 2021 and closely linked to the Operation Bosphorus/Conversus on the use of intelligence packages throughout gun crime investigations, is organized in the framework of the implementation of the European Union Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 adopted on 19 November 2018 in support of SEESAC's activities for the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on combating illicit arms trafficking in the Western Balkans.
