Advisory Meeting on Harmonization of the Legal Framework on Arms Control with the EU Acquis organized in North Macedonia

UNDP SEESAC continued its support to activities of harmonization of North Macedonia’s legal framework on SALW control with the EU Acquis. The advisory meeting with the Ministry of Interior, representatives of other relevant authorities and representatives of legal entities dealing with legal weapons such shooting association, hunting association, dealers and private security services, was organized on 9 July. During the meeting, participants and SEESAC experts discussed and reviewed the EU regulatory framework in the field of Weapons for civil use and the tables of concordances on the Law on Weapons, which is currently in place providing clear recommendations for necessary changes.

Advisory meeting on legal harmonization was organized in the context of the EU Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 in support of the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on combating illicit arms trafficking in the Western Balkans. It directly contributes to achieving Goal 1 of the Roadmap on ensuring that arms control legislation is in place, fully harmonized with the EU regulatory framework and other related international obligations, and standardized across the region by 2023.
