SEESAC and FRONTEX complete the joint Firearms Detection Courses with the training for Montenegrin Border Police

The Firearms Detection Course for the representatives of the Border Police of Montenegro was held at the Police Academy Training Centre from 23-27 October 2023 in Kupari, Croatia. This was the last in the series of trainings for the Western Balkans authorities, organized jointly by SEESAC and FRONTEX.

During the five-day course, FRONTEX trainers have provided the respective representatives of the Border Police with in-depth training, combining both theoretical and practical sessions. The participants were presented with the Handbook on Firearms for Border Guards and Customs developed by FRONTEX with SEESAC support, new trends in weapons trafficking and related risk indicators, a variety of ammunition and firearms recognition techniques and comprehensive operational responses needed to combat cross-border crime threats.

Previously, the representatives of the Border Police and Customs of Bosnia and HerzegovinaSerbiaAlbania, Kosovo* and North Macedonia attended the same course.

The Firearms Detection Course was supported by the European Union through the EU Council Decision 2019/2111, in support of SEESAC’s disarmament and arms control activities in South East Europe, reducing the threat of illicit small arms and light weapons and their ammunition.
