SEESAC and FRONTEX Collaborate to Train Border Police and Customs from Bosnia and Herzegovina in Firearms Detection
SEESAC, in close cooperation with FRONTEX, has organised the Firearms Detection Course for the representatives of the Border Police and Customs from Bosnia and Herzegovina to enhance participants' understanding of the methods used in weapons trafficking. The course took place at the Training Center of the Police Academy of the Ministry of Interior of Croatia in Kupari on 12-16 June 2023.
The Firearms Detection Course was based on the Western Balkan version of the FRONTEX’s Handbook on Firearms for Border Guards and Customs. This handbook was developed with substantial support from the relevant authorities in the Western Balkans. The course curriculum consisted of both theoretical sessions and practical exercises focused on firearms detection.
By increasing the authorities’ awareness and knowledge, the course aimed at strengthening participants' weapons detection capabilities. The training covered the use of technical equipment and the assessment of risk indicators associated with potential firearms traffickers. Additionally, participants gained a better understanding of the necessary steps to be taken after detecting firearms, including recognizing firearms, their essential parts, other components, and explosives.
The course was organised with the EU support provided through the EU Council Decision 2019/2111 in support of arms control activities in South East Europe and reinforces the commitment of Bosnia and Herzegovina to combat trafficking and illicit possession of firearms.
