SEESAC and FRONTEX Organise Course in Firearms Detection for Border Police and Customs from Serbia
SEESAC and FRONTEX continue assisting the authorities from the Western Balkans in raising their capacities for firearms detection. This time, Border Police and Customs representatives from Serbia participated in the Firearms Detection Course to enhance their comprehension of weapons trafficking methods. The course took place at the Training Centre of the Police Academy of the Ministry of Interior of Croatia in Kupari on 19-23 June 2023.
The Firearms Detection Course was based on the Western Balkan edition of FRONTEX's Handbook on Firearms for Border Guards and Customs. This unique guide has been developed with significant assistance from relevant authorities in the Western Balkans. The course curriculum encompassed both theoretical sessions and practical exercises with a focus on firearms detection.
By elevating awareness and knowledge, the course aimed to fortify participants' proficiency in detecting weapons. Training covered the utilization of specialized equipment and the evaluation of risk indicators linked to potential firearms traffickers. Moreover, participants acquired a deeper understanding of the necessary procedures post-detection, including identification of firearms, essential components, additional parts, and explosives.
The course was organised with the EU support provided through the EU Council Decision 2019/2111 in support of arms control activities in South East Europe and reinforces the commitment of Bosnia and Herzegovina to combat trafficking and illicit possession of firearms.
