Western Balkan and Moldovan Criminal Police Services Build Capacities in Countering Trafficking and Illicit Possession of Firearms

Supported by the European Union, SEESAC organised the Regional Meeting of Criminal Police Representatives in Budva, Montenegro, on 30 November – 1 December.

The criminal police plays a pivotal role in both preventing and repressing trafficking and illegal possession of small arms and light weapons and its components. It also significantly contributes to activities for identification and suppression of firearms.

The meeting raised capacities of the criminal police services from the Western Balkans and Moldova in countering trafficking and illicit possession of firearms. Through this regional meeting, the representatives of the criminal police from the seven jurisdictions, enforced their capacities by empowering regional cooperation, better knowledge exchange, and increased information‐sharing among investigators in the region.

The meeting was organised with the EU support provided through the EU Council Decision 2019/2111 in support of arms control activities in South East Europe, as well as in the framework of the regional IPA project  Support for Enhancing the Fight Against the Illegal Possession, Misuse, and Trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in the Western Balkans, funded by the European Union.
