Western Balkan and Moldovan Border Police and Customs Continue Enhancing Their Capacities

In cooperation with Frontex, SEESEAC organised the Regional Meeting of the Border Police and Customs representatives in Tirana, Albania on 6-7 December 2022. Over 40 participants got a chance to exchange information and knowledge on the best practices and challenges related to countering firearms trafficking.

The regional meeting also aimed at finalising the Western Balkan version of the Handbook on Firearms for Border Guards and Customs, introducing the Frontex Firearms Detection Course for trainers that will be delivered jointly with SEESAC throughout the Western Balkan’s jurisdictions.

The participants got introduced to the Train the Trainer module of the Firearms Detection Course, the Manual for Trainers based on the Handbook and recently had a chance to work jointly on the adjustments of these documents for the Western Balkan’s jurisdictions. The trainings that will be delivered during 2023 will also take into consideration the provisions of the recently developed Standard Operating Procedures for the Border Police Services that SEESAC supported.

Support to the Western Balkan and Moldovan Criminal Police and Customs representatives is provided through the EU Council Decision 2019/2111 in support of arms control activities in South East Europe.
