Specialized Training on Firearms Detection in Danilovgrad Strengthens Capacities of Law Enforcement Officers
From February 23 to 27, law enforcement officers from the Police Directorate of Montenegro enhanced their capacities to detect illicit firearms and prevent weapons trafficking during a specialized training on firearms detection held at the Police Academy in Danilovgrad.
The five-day training brought together officers working on the prevention and investigation of firearms-related crime, providing them with practical knowledge and tools necessary to improve the detection of weapons and explosives.
As part of SEESAC's efforts to strengthen regional capacities to combat illicit firearms possession, misuse and trafficking, the training focused on enhancing operational skills in vehicle inspections, including identifying hidden compartments in cars, vans and buses, as well as interviewing techniques used during checks. Participants also discussed current trends in firearms trafficking in Southeast Europe, with an emphasis on methods and routes used by organized criminal groups.
Participants conducted vehicle inspections under the guidance of expert trainers, applying newly acquired knowledge in practice, and further strengthening their ability to detect weapons and disrupt illicit trafficking attempts.
By strengthening the technical and operational skills of law enforcement officers, SEESAC continues to support the law enforcement in the region to improve capacity to prevent and detect the illicit trafficking of firearms. The training was made possible with the financial support of the European Union, through Council Decision 2024/3006 in support of SEESAC disarmament and arms control activities in South-East Europe reducing the threat of illicit small arms and light weapons and their ammunition.
