SEESAC continues to support the Moldovan General Police Inspectorate in Open-Source Intelligence Training
From July 1 to 3, General Police Inspectorate (GPI) representatives from the Republic of Moldova completed an intensive Open-source Intelligence (OSINT) training session. The training, facilitated by UNDP SEESAC, focused on enhancing skills in gathering and analyzing information from the Internet and social media.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in comprehensive sessions on the OSINT cycle, Social Media Intelligence (SOCMINT), social media platforms, and the associated challenges and planning requirements. Practical exercises included installing and updating virtual environments, using virtual machines, and equipping systems with the latest OSINT tools. Participants also practiced documenting and reporting OSINT findings through case scenarios to reinforce the theoretical knowledge gained. These exercises included preparing and planning for OSINT and SOCMINT operations, the practical use of virtual environments, and creating comprehensive reports.
Participants presented their reports, discussed lessons learned, challenges encountered, and future directions for enhancing OSINT capabilities. The training was recognized as a significant contribution to improving the effectiveness of criminal investigations.
The training was organized within the framework of the EU Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/2321 in support of UNDP SEESAC for the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on combating illicit arms trafficking in the Western Balkans.
