Serbia destroys 55,000 pieces of ammunition

On 17 December, the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with UNDP SEESAC, destroyed about 55,000 pieces of ammunition of different calibers in the presence of Director of Police Vladimir Rebić, UNDP Resident Representative Francine Picup, EU Delegation representative Enrico Maria Visentin and other members of local and international institutions. Mr. Rebić thanked the EU and UNDP for their continuous support, emphasizing that these efforts contribute significantly to overall security in Serbia. Ms. Pickup expressed readiness to continue supporting the Ministry of Interior in their work and thanked for the cooperation. Mr. Visentin also expressed EU's support to the control of SALW, commending the work of the Ministry of Interior in this area.

The event was organized under the framework of EU Council Decision (CFSP) 2016/2356 implemented by UNDP SEESAC, and contributes to the achievement of the goals of the Roadmap for a sustainable solution to the illegal possession, misuse and trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW)/firearms and their ammunition in the Western Balkans until 2024 and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Promote peaceful, just and inclusive societies and its target 16.4 that includes a significant reduction in illicit arms flows by 2030.
