Security of SALW and ammunition of Albanian Ministry of Defence further enhanced
Security infrastructure works at SALW and ammunition storage facility in Miraka, Albania have been completed, in line with international security standards. Successful testing, commissioning and technical handover of the completed works was carried out on 26 June 2020.
This activity was funded by the US Government Bureau of Political-Military Affairs’ Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement’s (PM/WRA) and implemented by UNDP through SEESAC. The upgrade further contributes to improved security of small arms and light weapons and ammunition stockpiles in Albania and thus to the implementation of SDG 16 on peaceful, just and inclusive societies.
The intervention involved designing and putting up a new perimeter security fence, exterior lighting installation, and video surveillance system with a monitoring room.
