SEESAC takes part in COARM Regional Workshop for SEE in Skopje

SEESAC took part in the Second Regional Workshop for South East European countries organized on 26 – 27 April 2017 in Skopje by the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (Bundesamt für Wirtschaft und Ausfuhrkontrolle) BAFA. SEESAC Chief Technical Advisor Mr. Alain Lapon chaired the session ”Outlook of the SEESAC involvement in South East Europe – a panel discussion on good practices of import marking". Import marking is a mandatory requirement of the United Nations Firearms Protocol, as an essential element of arms control.

Held within the framework of the EU Council Decision 2015/2309 on the promotion of effective arms export control, the aim of the regional workshop is to give partner countries a platform to meet and discuss developments in export controls of conventional arms with their partners and counterparts in the region and the EU.

The workshop provided a forum for delegates and EU experts to discuss recent developments within both the EU and the participating countries’ national arms export control systems, as well as national implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty. The delegates discussed licensing, risk assessment and arms diversion, while partner countries were also encouraged to present any issues or specific cases of notable interest or concern. These meetings will help further strengthen the already existing regional support and cooperation in arms export controls.
