SEESAC participates in the Regional Seminar on Combatting Illicit Weapons and Explosives Trafficking in Western Balkans
SEESAC took part in the regional seminar on Combatting Illicit Weapons and Explosives Trafficking in Western Balkans held on 16 – 17 May 2016 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). It was organized by the Police Attache to the French Embassy in the Republic of Croatia, Regional Coordinator for the Western Balkans and the Police Attache to the French Embassy in BiH.
The aim of the seminar was to present French structures and methods implemented in fighting illicit trafficking of firearms and explosives while emphasizing links to terrorism. In addition, the event provided an overview of the current state of the illicit trade of weapons and explosives in Western Balkan countries, focusing on exchange of information and the results of campaigns on voluntary surrender of firearms.
SEESAC presented an overview of collection and awareness raising campaigns conducted in the region, including campaigns in Albania, BiH, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Moldova, as well as regional social media campaigns. SEESAC also took part in a discussion on intelligence sharing and gathering about illicit firearms trafficking.
Over 50 experts from OSCE, EUROPOL, SEESAC, the French Interministerial Office for Fighting Organized Crime in Belgrade, the French General Directorate of Customs, as well as Albania, BiH, Croatia, Kosovo1, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Greece participated in the seminar.
