SEESAC attends “The Regional Senior Managers’ Course in Mine Action and the Removal of ERW” in Biograd, Croatia
SEESAC took part in “The Regional Senior Managers’ Course in Mine Action and the Removal of Explosive Remnants of War (ERW)” in Biograd, Croatia from March 20 to April 7, 2017. The objective of the course is to hone the skills of senior managers of national ERW and mine action programs so that countries can more effectively and efficiently tackle the challenges posed by landmines and other ERW that adversely affect their citizens' well-being and impinge upon economic development.
SEESAC presented activities and results achieved in SALW control work in South East Europe focusing on regional cooperation. “Regional challenges require regional solutions and our work relies on regional cooperation, knowledge exchange and information transfer to successfully tackle these challenges”, SEESAC Regional Cooperation Coordinator Ms. Juliana Buzi told the course participants on March 27, 2017.
Together with representatives from International Trust Fund, Norwegian People’s Aid, Mine Advisory Group and the Albanian Mine and Munitions Coordination Office (AMMCO), SEESAC also participated in the panel discussion on “Building Partnerships: Regional Collaboration and Communication”, focusing on challenges on building and sustaining cooperation and best practices,
Participants of the course included officials from Mine Action Centres and other organizations involved in mine action, including: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo1, Georgia, Ukraine, Colombia etc.
Initiated in 2004 and supported by UNDP, the “Regional Senior Managers’ Courses in Mine Action and the Removal of ERW” integrate the latest achievements in the field of business management with practical knowledge and experience of workers in the mine action and removing of the ERW. Funded by the U. S. Department of State, the course was held by the Center for International Stabilization and Recovery (CISR) in partnership with the Croatian Mine Action Center (CROMAC).
