SEESAC Supports the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro in Drafting the New Law on Weapons and Ammunition

As part of its ongoing support to assist the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro in aligning with the EU Acquis and international standards, SEESAC organized a workshop in Podgorica on September 3-4, 2024, to help the MoI's Working Group develop the first draft of the new Law on Weapons and Ammunition.

The two-day workshop focused on addressing gaps in the existing framework and the important provisions of the new draft law, including:

  • Definitions and categorization of weapons and ammunition,
  • Provisions on possession and carrying of weapons and ammunition,
  • Provisions on collection and registration of weapons and ammunition,
  • Issuance of relevant documents.

SEESAC’s expert support ensured that the draft law aligns with the relevant EU regulatory framework, reinforcing Montenegro’s capacity in combatting threats posed by the illicit trafficking of small arms, light weapons, and explosives.

This Workshop was organized within the EU Council Decision (CFSP) 2019/2111 under the framework of SEESAC disarmament and arms control activities in South-East Europe, reducing the threat of illicit small arms and light weapons and their ammunition.
