Regional iBase designer training delivered to IT Experts

As a part of SEESAC’s partnership with governments across South East Europe aimed at establishing Firearms Focal Points (FFPs), , a regional iBase designer training was conducted in Belgrade. The training follows the purchasing  of necessary software  licenses in 2018 and 2019 and the assistance that was provided in linking the relevant firearms databases. The trainings aim to further support the IT experts who are using or maintaining the iBase within the FFP units, to ensure the sustainability of the process. The training will also contribute directly to the implementation of the Roadmap for a sustainable solution to the illegal possession, misuse and trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and their ammunition in the Western Balkans by 2024.

What do Firearms Focal Points do?

FFPs are information collection and analysis units comprised of ballistic experts and criminal investigators that enable the building and updating of the intelligence picture on firearms trafficking. SEESAC is providing support to the establishment of the FFPs through provision of relevant equipment, training and technical advice. FFPs will provide information to the strategic and operational levels of decision making through the coordinated collection and sharing of information (criminal and ballistic), to enhance the ability of law enforcement and the judiciary to analyze and coordinate direct actions against the threats and risks of firearms misuse and trafficking.

The training is organized within the European Union Council Decision 2016/2356/CFSP, in support of SEESAC’s disarmament and arms control activities in the South East Europe.
