North Macedonia Takes a Step Forward in Harmonizing Legislation with EU Standards in the field of Civil Use of Explosives
In an effort to bring North Macedonia's legislation in line with European Union standards, the Workshop on Draft Law on Civil Use of Explosives was held in Struga on September 16-19. The event brought together members of the newly formed working group of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Macedonia and representatives of relevant ministries that govern various aspects of explosives for civil use.
The workshop aimed to facilitate the drafting of the Law on Civil Use of Explosives and the relevant bylaws. SEESAC provided expert support during the workshop to assist in drafting the new legislation, ensuring it aligns seamlessly with the relevant EU regulatory framework. This initiative reflects SEESAC's ongoing commitment to supporting North Macedonia in combatting threats posed by illicit trafficking of small arms, light weapons, and explosives.
The workshop aimed to develop the draft Law on Civil Use of Explosives and its accompanying bylaws, a crucial step toward strengthening the regulatory framework in line with EU standards. SEESAC provided expert guidance during the drafting process, ensuring the proposed legislation addresses regional challenges while meeting EU regulatory requirements.
This initiative is part of SEESAC's broader efforts to support North Macedonia in combating the threats posed by illicit trafficking of small arms, light weapons, and explosives.
The workshop was organized within the framework of the European Union Council Decision (CFSP) 2019/2111, amended by the Council Decision (CFSP) 2024/381 in support of SEESAC disarmament and arms control activities in Southeast Europe.
