Building capacities for online investigations in South East Europe

SEESAC organized a five-day online training on collection and visualization of open source intelligence data using Analyst Notebook, for the representatives of Firearms Focal Points and Cyber Security Units. This training was conceived as a continuation of the similar training organized by SEESAC, that took place in the last week of September 2020. From 8 to 12 March 2021, participants from eight jurisdictions from South East Europe (SEE), namely Serbia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Montenegro, Kosovo*, North Macedonia and Albania received theoretical information followed by a practical exercise where they could apply their newly gained skills. Among specific topics covered were the use of scraping tools, especially on social networks, search and collection of intelligence and visualisation of data on analyst notebook.

This training is organized in the framework of the implementation of the European Union Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 adopted on 19 November 2018 in support of SEESAC’s activities for the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on combating illicit arms trafficking in the Western Balkans. It aims to further enhance the capacities of criminal police in SEE to conduct online investigations and as such contributes to Goals 3 and 7 of the Roadmap.
