SEESAC’S GUIDELINES FOR GENDER ANALYSIS ARE NOW AVAILABLE IN SPANISH AND FRENCH

SEESAC has just released the Guidelines for Gender Analysis of SALW Control Legislation and Policies in Spanish and French.

The Guidelines facilitate the implementation of gender analysis in the small arms context by providing step-by-step guidance for a thorough review of relevant legislative and policy frameworks. Grounded in a large-scale exercise conducted in the Western Balkans, this document consolidates the key methodological lessons learned in carrying out such analysis and shares good practices beyond the Western Balkans.

The publication provides detailed instructions for gender analysis, including setting the goal and defining the scope of such analysis - both in terms of identifying key gendered concerns for the analysis and legal and policy acts to be analysed. In addition, the Guidelines contain a comprehensive list of questions for carrying out the gender analysis and provide guidance for formulating conclusions and recommendations.

In doing so, this document increases gender responsiveness of relevant legislations and policies through the comprehensive and systematic use of gender analysis and improves knowledge of the impact of legislative and policy frameworks on women, men, girls, and boys. Finally, they raise awareness of the necessity of gender analysis for any effective small arms control.

The Guidelines were produced with the financial assistance of the European Union, through the EU Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 in support of SEESAC for the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on combating illicit arms trafficking in the Western Balkans.
