SEESACs Work Recognized in 2011 UN Yearbook
The United Nations Disarmament Yearbook is a concise and comprehensive reference tool on disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control issues around the world. It provides examples of successful and tangible results achieved in the realm of disarmament. The II part of the 36th edition, covering the year 2011, is now available.
Part I contains an annual compilation of text and statistics of disarmament-related resolutions and decisions of the General Assembly. Part II presents the main topics of multilateral consideration during the year and a convenient issues-oriented timeline. The Yearbook also covers developments relating to key multilateral treaties and norms.
SEESAC's efforts were mentioned in the context of successfully improved security through cooperation in the region of South Eastern Europe. This recognition came as a result of a successful implementation of activities in the following areas:
1) Improvement of physical security and increased stockpile management capabilities through training and reconstruction of storage facilities; Read more
2) Development and implementation of an extensive Regional Course on Stockpile Management with three modules; Read more
3) Destruction of 16,329 SALW in Croatia and several awareness-raising campaigns in Croatia and Serbia; Read more
4) Assistance to the Governments of Montenegro and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in implementing an efficient weapons registration system; Read more
5) Activities for improvement of the administrative capacity and support for transparency of arms transfers to and from the Western Balkans; Read more
Currently, SEESAC arms control ctivities are funded by the European Union (EU) under the EU COUNCIL DECISION 2010/179/CFSP, dated 11 March 2010, in support of SEESAC arms control activities in the Western Balkans, and within the framework of the EU Strategy to combat the illicit accumulation and trafficking of SALW and
their ammunition.
