SEESAC Supports AF of Montenegro in Integrating Gender Perspective in HR Policies
Seminar on gender equality for representatives of Human Resources (HR) Division of the Armed Forces (AF) of Montenegro was held on 15 -16 December 2015 in the Montenegrin coastal town of Pržno.
Supported by UNDP SEESAC, the aim of the two-day seminar was to raise knowledge on gender equality and increase skills to mainstream gender into HR polices in the AF of Montenegro of the HR Division staff.
The Seminar is part of the Gender Coach Programme, implemented by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Montenegro during 2015. The goal of the Programme is to strengthen capacities of the Head of HR Division and staff employed in this unit in integrating gender perspective in the work of their organization. The Gender Coach Programme is based on the successful programme developed and carried out in Sweden since 2007.
The seminar covered the following topics: basic concepts of gender equality; legal framework for gender equality in Montenegro and gender equality mechanisms; position of women in Montenegro; and position of women in the Armed Forces is Montenegro.
Guest speaker at the seminar, General Inspector in the MoD of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Brigadier General Enes Husejnović, presented internal complaints mechanisms in MoD BiH, with the focus on gender based complaints. Brigadier General Enes Husejnovic participation in the seminar is the second deployment of the UNDP SEESAC Regional Security Sector Reform Platform (RSSRP). The first deployment through the RSSRP to Georgia took place in September 2015.
Back to back with gender awareness seminar, the first meeting of female officers in the Armed Forces of Montenegro took place. The networking meeting enabled exchange of experiences among female officers in the AFs of Montenegro.

SEESAC's Gender Equality in the Military: Strengthening of Regional Cooperation on Gender Mainstreaming in Security Sector Reform in the Western Balkans project aims to create a more conducive environment for the advancement of women in the military in the Western Balkans. With this as its goal, SEESAC is supporting the Ministries of Defense in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Republic of Serbia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in their efforts to ensure better integration, retention and professional development for women in the armed forces; stronger participation of women in decision-making; and gender sensitive change in their organizational culture.
