A 52-year-old man, a suspected member of an organized criminal group, has been missing for nine days before a body, suspected to be his, was found on May 21, 2026, encased in concrete inside a barrel in Jarkovci, near Inđija.

Previously, during the crime scene investigation, police found two 9mm shell casings and several blood traces inside the establishment. An iPhone was also recovered from a nearby container. Investigations revealed that the victim was shot and killed at a restaurant during a meeting arranged by the Chief of the Belgrade Police, intended to reconcile the victim with another man. Following a dispute, that man used a 9mm handgun, brought to the scene from a "stash" by his wife, to shoot the victim multiple times, killing him instantly.

Following the murder, two police officers from the Chief's security detail assisted the murderer in transporting the body to Šimanovci, where it was set on fire to destroy evidence. Simultaneously, the Chief and another officer remained at the restaurant to delete security camera footage and clean the crime scene. A total of eleven individuals have been arrested, including the shooter, the Belgrade Police Chief, and three police officers (aged 41, 33, and 47), along with the restaurant owner (a 50-year-old man) and a waiter, who were arrested for assisting the perpetrators after the crime and failing to report the incident.  The police have also arrested a tenth suspect, a 51-year-old man who is accused of assisting the primary suspects after the crime by driving them to the settlement of Jakovo while they were in hiding. During the man's arrest, police recovered the passports of the two main suspects and 10,000 euros in cash. Most recently, the former head of the Criminal Police Directorate was detained for questioning for failing to report communications with the suspects on the night of the murder, but was released shortly after.  On May 24, 2026, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade ordered the arrest of an eleventh person in connection with the murder of the man, a 20-year-old man who worked as a waiter at the restaurant and was present at the scene at the time of the shooting. Although he initially denied his presence during an informal police interview, the investigation established that he was at the location. He is now suspected of helping other suspects cover up the crime and the identity of the perpetrators. The investigation showed that a 9x19 mm caliber pistol of an unknown brand was used during the commission of the crime and was held in illegal possession. During June, the investigation was expanded, and another suspect was arrested for co-perpetration of the murder. According to the prosecution, the man allegedly participated in preparing the killing or directly took part in the shooting.
