A 35-year-old man went armed with a hunting rifle to the home of his former partner’s family and opened fire, killing her 58-year-old father and seriously injuring her 51-year-old mother, who later died in hospital. He then forcibly took his 24-year-old former partner hostage and fled by vehicle while armed. Police and special forces surrounded him and negotiated the woman’s release after he threatened to kill himself and the hostage. After releasing the woman, the man refused to surrender and died by suicide inside the vehicle with the hunting rifle.
