While fleeing the scene of a jewelry shop robbery in a vehicle believed to have been stolen that same morning, the perpetrators became involved in an armed confrontation with responding police officers. When police attempted to stop them, the suspects opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire during which several rounds struck nearby buildings, including the façade of a school and a municipal office window. In the search that followed, officers found a burned vehicle suspected to have been used in the robbery, as well as the body of a man believed to be one of the offenders. Two additional suspects were later arrested and are under investigation for their role in the robbery and for shooting at police officers. No injuries to civilians or police were reported.
