In a major international police operation codenamed "SPEKTAKULAR," 14 members of the so-called "Balkan Cartel" were processed for organised crime, drug trafficking, and weapon trafficking. In Montenegro, seven men (aged 22, 25, 30, 35, 33, 35, and 47) were arrested following searches at 11 locations. One suspect, a 47-year-old man, is specifically charged with the illegal trade of weapons and explosive materials. The operation, coordinated by EUROPOL and involving police forces from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and Spain, resulted in the total seizure of 4.5 tons of narcotics (including cocaine and cannabis). The investigation revealed that the group operated across several continents, using sophisticated methods to smuggle drugs and weapons. One member of the group was already in custody for previous illegal weapon possession (a 34-year-old man). Two are still at large.
