SEESAC trains the Moldovan General Police Inspectorate in Open Source Intelligence and Cyber Patrolling
As part of its ongoing effort to provide assistance to capacity development of criminal police services throughout the SEE, SEESAC organized a training on Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) and Cyber Patrolling for the representatives of the General Police Inspectorate of the Republic of Moldova.
The training took place on 4-8 December 2023 in Chișinău, showcasing the continued commitment of SEESAC in supporting the capacity development of the General Police Inspectorate to counter illicit trafficking and possession of firearms, being carried out in the course of the implementation of the EU Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/2321.
During the five-day training, 14 representatives of the General Police Inspectorate of the Republic of Moldova worked with the SEESAC expert on further developing their capacities to use OSINT and Cyber Patrolling to prevent crimes. The participants explored the best practices of OSINT and Cyber Patrolling, learning about the concepts of internet investigation, such as data sourcing and network investigation, acquiring knowledge about dark web invesigation and virtual currency, as well as social media intelligence.
Representatives of General Police Inspectorate also had a chance to utilize various tools for OSINT and cyber patrolling, while conducting numerous excercizes, aplying the newly-acquired tools and knowledge in practice, including the tools for operational security, tools for search and collection of information and tools for analysing virtual currency transaction.
The OSINT and Cyber Patrolling training was initiated based on the Needs Assessment Report on Capacities of the Criminal Police of the Republic of Moldova to counter illicit trafficking and possession of firearms, which further identified specific needs for capacity development in these areas.
