SEESAC Supports Drafting of New Law on Explosives for Civil Use in Kosovo*

At the request of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Department for Public Safety, SEESAC supported the authorities in organising the Workshop for the Drafting of the Law on the Civil Use of Explosives, harmonised with the relevant EU regulatory framework, which took place in Pristina on 13-14 September.

The event is a continuation of SEESAC’s support to Kosovo in combating the threat posed by the spread of illicit trafficking of small arms, light weapons, and explosives in and from South East Europe. A strong legal framework for small arms and light weapons and explosives control is a precondition for all the other capacity development activities.

The workshop’s organisation is supported through the EU Council Decision 2019/2111 in support of arms control activities in South East Europe in the framework of the EU Strategy to combat the illicit accumulation and trafficking of SALW and their ammunition. SEESAC supports jurisdictions of the Western Balkans in tackling the threat posed by the accumulation and illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons and their ammunition as well as in improving the stockpile management capacities.
