SEESAC Contributes to Discussions During the 15th Consultative Meeting of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium

15th Consultative Meeting of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium (EUNPDC), organized by the Foundation for Strategic Research on behalf of the European Union in Brussels on 15 and 18 September 2026, brought together representatives of EU institutions, research organizations and arms control experts to discuss some of the most pressing challenges in arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation. 

The EUNPDC Consultative Meetings provide an important platform for dialogue between EU institutions, the expert community and research organizations working in the fields of non-proliferation, disarmament and arms control. By facilitating discussions on emerging challenges, policy priorities and possible responses, the meetings help strengthen cooperation and inform the continued development and implementation of relevant EU policies and initiatives. 

Discussions on conventional arms control addressed a wide range of topics, including current trends in global arms markets, challenges related to intangible transfers of military technology, and technological solutions for preventing arms diversion. 

During the final session, dedicated to the integration of the gender perspective in in conventional arms control, SEESAC shared its experience in supporting a gender-responsive approach to SALW control. SEESAC’s intervention highlighted lessons emerging from SEESAC’s long-standing efforts and cooperation with authorities in South-East and East Europe and the importance of gender-responsive data collective, use of gender analysis, and the full participation of women for effective arms control policies and practices. 

SEESAC’s participation provided an opportunity to facilitate exchange of experiences and bring regional perspectives and evidence into the broader European discussion among policymakers, researchers and arms control practitioners.
