Public Debate in Podgorica Advances Progress on the Draft Law on Weapons and Ammunition
On February 14th, more than 50 participants - representatives of state institutions, civil society, the international community and the broader public gathered in Podgorica for a round table as part of the public debate on the draft Law on Weapons and Ammunition - offering the public and all relevant stakeholders an opportunity to actively participate in shaping fair and effective legislation.
Following the public debate, the working group convened from 3 to 5 March to discuss the comments from the public debate and further refine the draft law. The group incorporated feedback and suggestions from the participants into the draft Law to enhance the proposed regulation, continuing to prioritize transparency and public participation in the legislative process.
The working group built upon the groundwork laid during the initial session, ensuring the alignment of the draft law with EU acquis and refining regulations related to weapon possession and carrying, as well as procedures for the collection, registration, and issuance of documentation for weapon and ammunition storage.
The work on the draft Law is supported by SEESAC, as part of ongoing efforts to support Western Balkan jurisdictions in harmonizing their arms-control legislation with EU regulations and international standards through the EU
Council Decision (CFSP) 2024/3006.
