Women and girls make up the majority of victims and survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), which often involves the use or threat of weapons. Yet, GBV remains severely underreported, limiting the effectiveness of efforts to prevent it. In conflict settings, such violence frequently escalates into more severe, and weaponized forms as conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV).
Recongnizing these risks multilateral arms control and disarmament frameworks, accompanied by growing calls for consistent and holistic integration of gender perspective in small arms and light weapons control.
Focusing on experiences from the Western Balkans and Haiti, this event seeks to facilitate cross-geographical learning. Experts and practitioners will share and discuss emerging initiatives and good practices for integrating gender-responsive arms control measures into broader efforts to prevent GBV and CRSV.
