Workshop on development of Standard Operating Procedures in Montenegro

Representatives of Border Police of Montenegro attended the Workshop on development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that was held in Budva from 16 till 18 November 2021.

Guided by the results of the detailed needs assessment of the capacities of border police in Montenegro to counter illicit arms trafficking, this Workshop was organized in response to the specific need derived from the recommendations of the assessment. Development of SOPs was seen as one of the primary needs in straightening of implementation of the Border Police legislative framework for countering illicit arms trafficking.

During the three-day Workshop, representatives of the Border Police of Montenegro worked closely with SEESAC team of experts on methods of risk analysis and tracing of weapons as well as on procedures of border checks and border surveillance relevant to detection of illicit firearms trafficking.

The workshop also brought constructive discussions on very important subjects of co-operation between Border Police and other police branches in terms of countering illicit cross-border trafficking of WAE, existing procedures and equipment and the way forward to its improvement.

This activity has been implemented within European Union Council Decision (CFSP) 2019/2111 as a continuation of the support provided under the European Union Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 and will be extended by further support to the border polices of Western Balkans in procurement of the equipment that was assessed as needed and related trainings.
