UNDP SEESAC takes part in First National Conference on Preventing and Combating Illicit Trafficking in Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives in Kyiv

SEESAC took part in the First National Conference on Preventing and Combating Illicit Trafficking in Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives in all its aspects, organized with the support of OSCE on 15-16 February 2022 in Kyiv, Ukraine. The conference gathered representatives from state authorities, international organizations, think tanks, and the donor countries, and provided a forum for the establishment of the coordination platform. The aim of the platform is to foster cooperation among all international and national stakeholders in Ukraine and track the progress of the implementation of a joint strategic approach in preventing and combatting illicit trafficking in weapons, ammunition and explosives in all its aspects.

Head of UNDP SEESAC, Ms. Bojana Balon, contributed to the conference session on Co-ordination and co-operation mechanisms with a presentation of UNDP SEESAC’s work on the facilitation of regional cooperation in South East Europe at the strategic and operational levels, while UNDP SEESAC Regional Cooperation Specialist, Ms. Juliana Buzi, participated in the Awareness Raising session and informed on the importance of evidence-based policies for development and implementation of targeted awareness-raising on the dangers of use and illicit possession of firearms.​

The conference was funded by the European Union, the governments of France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, the United States of America, Lithuania and Poland.
