Trainers Held a Gender Awareness Seminar for the Serbian AF Air Force and Air Defence Staff

BELGRADE - Gender trainers in the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) held a seminar on gender equality for 27 employees of Air Force and Air Defense on 18 June 2015 in the Air Force and Air Defense Command in Zemun, next to capital Belgrade.  The seminar is part of the series of gender awareness seminars organized so far for 749 officers, NCO’s, soldiers and civilians by MoD and SAF gender trainers during 2014 and 2015.

Gender equality is important for the Serbian Armed Forces and knowledge acquired in this seminar needs to be applied in practice, Air Force and Air Defence Deputy Commander Brigadier General Duško Žarković said in his opening remarks. Gender Advisor to the Minister of Defence Dr. Jovanka Šaranović presented some of the achievements of the MoD and SAF in advancing gender equality in the military, and highlighted the important role of gender trainers in raising gender awareness in the MoD and SAF

The seminar introduced basic concepts related to gender equality, legal framework, and relevance of gender equality for the security sector. The seminar was organized by the MoD of the Republic of Serbia with support of UNDP SEESAC.
