The first Executive Committee Meeting of the CASM Programme

The first Executive Committee Meeting of the CASM Programme took place on 4 July 2012, at the UNDP Serbia offices. The Executive Committee consists of and was attended by the representatives of the three organizations leading the Programme: the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia (MoD), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the United Nations Development Programme in Serbia (UNDP).

CASM is a joint development programme, initiated at the request of the Serbian MoD, with the aim to improve capacity for conventional ammunition stockpile management in the Republic of Serbia by enhancing security and safety of conventional ammunition storage facilities, disposing of surplus ammunitions and strengthening demilitarization capacities of the MoD.

As the implementing agent of the Programme, UNDP/SEESAC informed the committee about the progress of activities since the programme commencement in January 2012, and presented pending technical issues. The Executive Committee also reviewed the fundraising efforts and accomplishments. Finally, the committee agreed to begin the organization of the Supervisory Board meeting tentatively scheduled for September 2012.

The overarching goals of CASM are to:

  1. Improve human security through the upgrade of safety and security of ammunition storagesites,
  2. Enhance counter-proliferation efforts by reducing the quantity and boosting security of surplus stockpiles, and
  3. Improve demilitarization capacities by upgrading infrastructure at TRZ Kragujevac.
