The U.S. State Department Funds SEESAC’s Capacity Development Programme for Conventional Ammunition Stockpile Management for the Republic of Serbia

The United States Department of State has granted UNDP/SEESAC financial support for implementing the Capacity Development Programme for Conventional Ammunition Stockpile Management for the Republic of Serbia (CASM).

CASM has, since its official launch in 2012, achieved significant results, such as the now-completed removal of napalm powder from Serbia. In addition, progress has been initiated to dispose of white phosphorus-filled ammunition – 20 tonnes of which has been disposed of to date. The financial backing generously offered by the U.S. Department of State will provide SEESAC with strengthened capacity to further support its partner, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, in managing its stockpiles.

The positive results of the CASM Programme reflect the Serbian MoD’s commitment to improve its capacity for conventional ammunition stockpile management by enhancing the security and safety of its storage locations, disposing of surplus ammunition, and strengthening its demilitarization capacities.

With this contribution by the US Department of State, and with the affirmed continued cooperation of the Serbian MoD, SEESAC will continue facilitating safe disposal activities in order to strengthen human security in Serbia as well as in the region.
