Strengthening legal framework of Western Balkans on SALW and explosives control through harmonization with the EU Acquis
On 15 December, SEESAC organized an online Regional Workshop on Harmonization of Legislation in the Field of SALW and Explosives Control with the EU Acquis. Delegations from Belgrade, Chisinau, Kiev, Minsk Podgorica, Pristina, Skopje, Sarajevo and Tirana provided updates on their activities and progress on harmonizing their legislative framework with relevant EU regulatory framework. They also received detailed information from officials from EU DG HOME and EU DG GROW on EU Firearms directive, EU Regulation on explosives for civil use and pyrotechnics and EU Regulation on marketing and use of explosive precursors and used this occasion to seek necessary clarifications. Representatives of French Central Arms Service and Plateau d'investigation sur les explosifs et les armes à feu or Explosives (PIXAF) shared their experience on practical implementation of control of use of explosive precursors while SEESAC Chief Technical Advisor updated on the weapons not included in the EU Firearms Directive.
The regional harmonization workshop was organized with the funding support of the European Union through its Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 in support of SEESAC for the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on combating illicit arms trafficking in the Western Balkans.
