SEESAC supports first firearms destruction event in Kosovo*

589 confiscated firearms were destroyed by the Kosovo Police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on 14 November 2019, during an event organized with the support of UNDP, through the Kosovo Safety and Security Programme (KSSP) and SEESAC.

Mr. Izmi Zeka, Head of SALW Commission and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Samedin Mehmeti, Kosovo Police Deputy Director, Ms. Maria Suokko, UNDP Kosovo Resident Representative, and Mr. Hakan Ejdervik from the European Union Office in Kosovo, took part in the ceremony marking the initiation of the disposal.

The activity was implemented under the framework of EU Council Decision (CFSP) 2016/2356 and contributes to the implementation of the Roadmap for a sustainable solution to the illegal possession, misuse and trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and their ammunition in the Western Balkans and SDG 16: Promote peaceful, just and inclusive societies and its target 16.4 that envisages a significant reduction in illicit arms flows by 2030.
