SEESAC holds a presentation on gender equality during the workshop “The Forensic Treatment of Sexual and Gender Based Violence Cases”
SEESAC Project Officer Mr. Dragan Bozanic took part in the workshop “The Forensic Treatment of Sexual and Gender Based Violence Cases”, organized by the National Forensic Center of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia, on 23 February 2017, for representatives of local institutions in the towns of Pančevo, Zrenjanin and Vršac.
Gathering sixty participants from the National Forensic Centre (NFC), Public Prosecutor Offices, Police Directorates, Police Stations, Courts, and the social welfare centers, the aim of the workshop was to increase the capacity of local institutions to respond to and better process gender-based violence cases. Participants shared their experiences in forensic practices on documenting sexual and gender based violence and presented latest methods and tools used in their work.
SEESAC Project Officer Mr. Dragan Bozanic delivered the introductory session on gender equality. While focusing on the concept of gender equality, he provided appropriate data that shows the current position of women in Serbia. He outlined international and national legislative and strategic framework, particularly with the reference to domestic violence and institutional response. Mr. Bozanic also presented the findings of SEESAC’s recently published Gender and SALW Study. He concluded by presenting data which shows different security perceptions of women and men in Serbia and reported cases of sexual and gender-based violence in Serbia.
The workshop was organized by NFC, in cooperation with the Swedish National Police Board.
