SEESAC Shares Experience in Supporting SSG/R Processes at the OSCE Workshop in Podgorica
SEESAC participated in the Regional Workshop on Security Sector Governance and Reform (SSG/R) held on 19-21 September 2016 and organized by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Podgorica. The goal of the Workshop is to raise awareness on the SSG/R roles and activities in the South East Europe (SEE) region among the international organizations, governments, civil society and academia, by bringing together differed stakeholders and actors.
SEESAC shared its experience and best practices, as it has been providing continuous support to governments of SEE in their full range of activities aimed to facilitate control of small arms and light weapons (SALW) and in advancing gender equality in the military in the Western Balkans.
“We believe that regional problems require regional solutions. While assisting our national partners in capacity building, we have been facilitating knowledge exchange, information transfer and regional cooperation in SALW control and gender equality in the military. By doing so, together with partners, beneficiaries and donors, we are creating conditions for more secure, safer and prosperous region”, SEESAC Senior Programme Coordinator Ms. Bojana Balon said in her address.
Participants in the workshop include members and staff of Parliament of Montenegro, senior officials from the SEE government ministries, senior staff and SSG/R focal points of the OSCE field operations in SEE, as well as SSG/R focal points from other OSCE Missions, international partners, as well as security experts, academia and civil society representatives.
