SEESAC Participates in NATO/EAPC Seminar on Implementing UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security in SALW/MA and Arms Control
SEESAC participated in a two-day seminar on Implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR) on Women, Peace and Security in Arms Control, SALW, and Mine Action (MA), held on 30 November – 1 December in Brussels. The seminar was organized by NATO’s Arms Control and Coordination Section in cooperation with the Office of the Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and hosted by the Belgium government.
The aim of the seminar was to finalize sets of guidelines for gender mainstreaming in SALW, mine action and arms control activities.
Experts from NATO Allied and Partner nations, and organizations such as SEESAC and Small Arms Survey provided support in development of the guidelines. The importance of mainstreaming gender in SALW/MA and Arms Control activities and the implementation of UNSCR 1325 was stressed in the keynote address and discussion with the participants by Rose Gottemoeller, NATO Deputy Secretary General.
