Experts Deployed to Moldova

UNDP SEESAC’s Regional Security Sector Reform Platform (RSSRP) is having its third deployment with three experts from the Serbian Ministry of Interior holding training for their Moldovan colleagues about the European Union (EU) integration process, on 25 – 26 February 2016, in Chisinau.

Officials from the Moldovan General Police Directorate and the Ministry of Interior are attending the training “EU Integration process – lessons learned from the Serbian Ministry of Interior” held by their colleagues from Serbia. In addition to training on the EU integration process, the Serbian experts are also providing peer-to-peer training on capacity building for forensic institutions and services of the Moldovan Police Directorate. Moldovan police officials are advised on how to improve infrastructure, fundraise for the necessary equipment, and obtain certification of various processes, as well as how to train their staff to respond to new challenges.

The Regional Security Sector Reform Platform has been developed by UNDP SEESAC in cooperation with the Governments in South East Europe (SEE) with the aim to foster South-South Cooperation through provision of quick, effective, and demand-driven, short-term targeted technical support. Launched in September 2015, the platform includes a roster of over 50 experts working on different aspects of Security Sector Reform processes, in particular on small arms and light weapons control, and gender mainstreaming in Security Sector Reform in SEE.

RSSRP experts come from the region’s militaries, police, border, and customs services; defence, foreign affairs and interior ministries, as well as other government bodies. They include police inspectors, high ranking military officers and specialists in anti-terrorism, stockpile management and ammunition maintenance, as well as arms transfers control professionals, lawyers, researchers. RSSRP thus far already deployed its experts to Georgia and the UK.
