Forensics Experts Deployed to Kyrgyzstan

UNDP SEESAC’s Regional Security Sector Reform Platform (RSSRP) deployed two experts from the Serbian Ministry of Interior National Criminalistic-Technical Centre to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on 9 – 10 November. They held a workshop for their Kyrgyz colleagues entitled “The Forensic Investigation of Crime Scenes in Criminal Acts against Sexual Freedom and Domestic Violence”.

The workshop was designed to help build the capacity of the staff at the Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan by utilizing the expertise and experience of representatives of the National Crime Technical Centre (NKTC) and Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia. The training included technical advice, examples of good practices, as well as several practical demonstrations.

The Regional Security Sector Reform Platform has been developed by UNDP SEESAC in cooperation with governments in South East Europe (SEE) with the aim of fostering South-South Cooperation through the provision of quick, effective, and demand-driven, short-term targeted technical support. Launched in September 2015, the platform includes a roster of over 50 experts working on different aspects of Security Sector Reform processes, in particular on small arms and light weapons control, and gender mainstreaming in Security Sector Reform in SEE.

RSSRP experts come from the region’s militaries, police, border, and customs services; defence, foreign affairs and interior ministries, as well as other government bodies. They include police inspectors, high ranking military officers and specialists in anti-terrorism, stockpile management and ammunition maintenance, as well as arms transfers control professionals, lawyers, and researchers. RSSRP has thus far deployed its experts to Georgia, the UK, Moldova and Kyrgyzstan.
