Annual Regional Cooperation Council Meeting 2014

The 6th Annual Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Meeting took place in Romania’s capital Bucharest on June 19, 2014. The meeting was co-chaired by RCC Secretary General Goran Svilanovic and Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Titus Corlăţean, who is currently the chair of the of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).

The 6th Annual Meeting, served as a perfect opportunity for RCC members to exchange views on development and regional cooperation, hear about the progress made and goals to be achieved by the RCC initiatives and international partners as well as review and discuss the Secretary General’s Annual Report.

SEESAC was represented by its Project Officer/Advisor Slobodan Bošković, who addressed the participants with a brief statement on the state of affairs of SEESACS activities, inviting the participants and the Chair to renew their commitment towards reducing surplus stockpiles of weapons and ammunition, as well as improving stockpile management.

Mr. Bošković spoke of SEESAC’s activities over the past year. In particular, he emphasised the success of SEESAC’s Gender in Security Sector Reform project on two fronts: the support provided to creating the Women’s Police Officers Network in South East Europe (WPON); and the creation of regional network representatives of gender equality mechanisms in the Ministries of Defence and Armed Forces of four states in the Western Balkans. The success of these initiatives can be attributed the level of cooperation and understanding between key regional stakeholders.

As stressed several times during and after the meeting, SEESAC as a joint initiative of the United Nations Development Programme and the Regional Cooperation Council is proud to serve the people of the region.
