57th Commission on the Status of Women with a Clear Goal - Ending Violence against Women and Girls

From 4 to 15 March 2013, the 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is taking place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Priority Theme is "Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls".

On this occasion, high-level representatives of UN agencies came together to underline their commitment to ending violence against women and girls. Their Joint Statement sent a strong, unified message that the fight to end violence against women and girls must be a priority of the international human rights agenda.

The two-week long event includes a high-level round table, interactive dialogues and panels, and parallel events and drew the yet largest number of participants in the history of the CSW.

The Commission on the Status of Women is the principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. Every year, representatives of Member States gather at United Nations Headquarters in New York to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and women's empowerment worldwide.

UNDP/SEESAC firmly supports this year’s action and is dedicated to further improvement of the status of women through our work with the Women Police Officer’s Network (WPON) and the Women in the Military project.
