Three evidence rooms security enhanced in line with international security standards, resulting in improved security of SALW stockpiles

The security upgrade of the evidence safekeeping rooms at the Police Directorates in Pristina, Prizren and Mitrovica south was completed in November 2021. The upgrade was funded by the EU under the Council Decision (CFSP) 2019/2111 and implemented by SEESAC and the UNDP Kosovo* Office. The evidence rooms were equipped with the metal weapons cabinets with security standard 3 padlocks. The intervention aimed at diminishing the risk of SALW proliferation is a continuation of the activity implemented under the EU Council Decision (CFSP) 2016/2356 by which the evidence rooms at the Forensic Agency near Pristina (2018) and the Regional Police Directorate in Djakovica (2019) were significantly enhanced.

The recently completed activity supports the implementation of the Roadmap for a sustainable solution to the illegal possession, misuse and trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and their ammunition in the Western Balkans by 2024, as well as UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 16 to promote peaceful, just and inclusive societies and its target 16.4 that includes a significant reduction in illicit arms flows by 2030.
