Advisory meetings held to support developing new Law on weapons

Three advisory meetings with the SALW Commission of Kosovo to support the development of the new Law on Weapons, were held in Pristina on March 25, 31, and April 1. Meetings presented a great opportunity to analyze the concordance of the existing Law on weapons with the EU Acquis and to overcome the gaps with the definition of new legal provisions.

Advisory meetings gathered representatives of the Department of Public Safety and UNDP SEESAC experts who worked together on the development of the Concept Document on the Law of weapons and discussed in detail the draft of the secondary legislation on weapons production.

These meetings were organized with the funding support of the European Union through its Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788, in support of SEESAC for the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on combating illicit arms trafficking in the Western Balkans. It directly contributes to Goal 1 of the Roadmap on ensuring that arms control legislation is in place, fully harmonized with the EU regulatory framework and other related international obligations, and standardized across the region by 2023.
