North Macedonia’s draft Law on Weapons discussed in the Workshop on the Harmonization of the Legal Framework on Arms Control with the EU Acquis

UNDP SEESAC supported a workshop on harmonization of legislation of North Macedonia’s legal framework on SALW control with the EU Acquis.  During today’s workshop, working group members and  SEESAC experts discussed and reviewed in detail articles of the draft Law on Weapons, providing comments on detected gaps with the EU directives and regulations and giving recommendations for revisions.

Legal harmonization workshop was organized in the context of the EU Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 of 19 November 2018 in support of the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on combating illicit arms trafficking in the Western Balkans and it directly contributes to the achievement of Goal 1 of the Roadmap on ensuring that arms control legislation is in place, fully harmonized with the EU regulatory framework and other related international obligations and standardized across the region by 2023.
